MAGMA Depedencies on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Hello,

I'm customising from ami-52a0c53b which is Ubuntu 12.04 HVM+GPU, running
on a g2.2xlarge

My users are running an application (Reacta) which I believe utilises
MAGMA, and they are getting the following error:

Error in magma_getdevice_arch: MAGMA not initialized (call magma_init()
first) or bad device .

A bit of googling on the error doesn't shed any light, and from what I
can see MAGMA 1.3 is installed as part of the AMI, but maybe isn't
initialising properly? Possibly the version is too old? The latest
version is 1.6.

If anyone has any thoughts I'd be most grateful.
